Updo for long hair and hairstyles can be used for all kinds of events including formal, wedding, prom, party or holiday events.

My friends at I.C.O.N. BEAUTY LAB in Los Angeles opened their doors and let us film them doing a few SIMPLE and EASY Updos to help you give your clients the look they want for holiday parties!

In part one, Abdon Vargas shows you an Updo made with Influential Styling. With Influential Styling, the stylist looks to the past for inspiration and adds a modern twist or flair to today’s hair fashions. Not only does influential styling allow you to AVOID 3 things that hairdressers RELY on and which consumers HATE, but it also gives you creative freedom when working with new styles.

In part two, expert make-up artist Jasmine Dashtizad explains how to quickly and easily transform your day look into a fabulous evening look. Jasmine’s technique allows you to layer make-up onto your existing make-up in less than 5 minutes.

Color Brush is Tool of Choice

The need for scissor sharpening, didn’t even come into play with  John Simpson’s award-winning hair series. Simpson, of Lewis Salon traded created this look, above, as one of several in a colo collection that he said allowed him to re–igninte his creativity. Simpson recently won the Best Haircolor award from the Professional Beauty Association during the 19th annual North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) – the color at left is from his award-winning collection, in which he wove different “stories” of texture and color.

Simpson, a stylist from Pittsburgh, PA, will be one of the people presenting a variety of techniques, cuts colors and more on TheCuttingEdgeHairShow.com
He used brilliant blondes, matte browns and many more techniques to create “something that not only inspires others” but also re-inspired him to get creative with his work. His collection features several photographs of different cuts, color, and style combinations. He showed that often, amazing looks can be created without specific use of shears – hair can be colored and styled expertly!
In the journey from the idea, through the creation of the line, and finally to the award, he said his biggest challenge was to make sure he actually followed through and “did it!”

Drugs for Hair

Cameron  Diaz’s boyfriend, model Paul Sculfor traded in illegal drugs for scissor sharpening. Well … sort of. He says he quit doing drugs because he didn’t want to lose his hair, thereby hurting his career and making his trips to his stylist more difficult and fewer and farther between. He says,  “My hair started falling out in my partying years, because excessive cocaine abuse affects the adrenal system and halts hair growth. I’m lucky it grew back. I’m not vain, but I am obsessed with my hair.”

Hm … not vain? Is it possible to BE a model in Hollywood and not be vain? And we won’t judge him about being obsessed with his hair – we know plenty of other stars who would say the same thing. Take Victoria Beckham who is rumored to be in a fued with Katie Holmes over dueling hairstylist! Of course, it IS just a rumor, but it goes to show the level of obsession with hair and hair styles!

New Techniques from an Amazing Salo...

We were in San Jose this week, for a little scissor-sharpening, and some filming for our new e-learning platform for stylists, The Cutting Edge Hairshow.
We were filming main stylist, Fernando Guzman hard at work, and demonstrating several techniques for 
Fernando put his scissors to use on his model’s hair as he taught an Innovative Comb Technique for doing a super-fast a-line cut.
He also put his scissors aside and focused on a fast and easy Updo technique without flat ironing, curling. He then taught a neat finger technique for doing the updo.
