I work at Petsmart as a bather and all I ever hear from the groomers is complaints about their blades and scissors not working properly. So I came up with the bright idea to have a blade sharpening service that is mobile! I later found out that that was such a great idea that it has already been done for years. lol. but i still think i would like to do it. I just don’t know where to start. I found a clipper sharpening system for 1400.00 from treyco. and a scissor sharpening system from twice as sharp for 400.00 and I am going to need like a chevy work van. but what else? and do i need to go to school for it and if so where? I live in oklahoma so it can’t be too far.

I just need a back up plan cause the way Obama is running this country and the way Bush ran it…America as we once knew it will no longer exist. sorry off topic.
please help.

Stick to the task at hand you don’t know enough about business to make a comment about the economy. No one was complaining when the economy was cooking and the unemployment rate was less than 5% under Bush who had taken over a faltering economy from Clinton.

The mobile sharpening idea. When I was a kid a guy used to drive through the neighborhood, once a month, in a large black truck with a bell. I don’t recall this going on for more than a year. A fellow who owns a sharpening service here in Texas (remember the alamo) outside of Houston collects items to be sharpened, once a week, from hardware stores, lumber yards as well a dog groomers. He never does the sharpening on the spot but rather drops off the sharpened items on his return trip the next week. You better be sure another sharpening service has not hit all the places which would need items sharpened before you invest in equipment. Buy a Chevy or Ford pickup, everyone in Oklahoma should have one. When time are bad it is a good time to start a business. When times are good it is a good time to start a business. I can’t imagine you would need to go to school to learn how to sharpen anything, just follow the instuctions that come woth the equipment and be sure to try it out on you own stuff or buy cheap crap at a resale shop to practice on. You do not need to incorporate, or get an EIN since to begin with you will be the only employee. I suggest a checking account under a DBA to keep your money and the money from your business separate. You will have to pay estimated taxes every quarter, get quick books or something similar or make your own spread sheet, do you books daily, keep records of all income and expenses. There is no reason to keep resturant receipts, you cannot deduct meals away from home for yourself.
